Overview: In terms of food sales packaging, the two most common and basic packaging processes currently used are filling and wrapping. Filling methods are applicable to almost all materials and various packaging containers. Specifically, for liquids, powders, and granular materials with good fluidity, they mainly rely on their own gravity, and with the necessary mechanical assistance, the packaging process can be completed. For semi-fluid materials with higher viscosity or larger single or combined pieces, corresponding extrusion, pushing, and picking methods are required. As for wrapping methods, they are different. They are mainly suitable for single or combined pieces with regular shapes, sufficient rigidity, and the requirement of tight packaging. Flexible plastics and their composite materials (some with lightweight trays and liners) are often used, with mechanical assistance for wrapping.

In the past ten years or so, the international packaging industry has attached great importance to improving the versatility and multi-functional integration capabilities of packaging machinery and the entire packaging system, providing timely and flexible production methods for the ever-changing diversified commodities in the market. At the same time, based on the actual needs of reasonable simplification of packaging and advantageous packaging processes, continuous exploration has significantly accelerated the pace of technological innovation. In particular, in response to the synchronous development of modern automatic machine tools, it has gradually become clear that to establish a new system of diversified, versatile, and multi-functional integrated packaging machinery, it is first necessary to focus on solving the major problems of modularization and mechatronics integration, which is undoubtedly an important direction for future development.

Mechanical packaging has replaced manual packaging, greatly improving packaging efficiency, but packaging waste has become a bad habit. In the future, not only packaging but also packaging machinery will move towards environmental protection. Green environmental protection is the main theme of the future.
